Overhang

Definition

An overhang is a part of a 3D model that extends outward beyond the layer below it, which may require supports to print cleanly.

——In depth

An overhang is any feature that juts out over empty space, such as the underside of an arch. Because each layer needs something beneath it, steep overhangs can sag or fail without support.

Printers can handle shallow overhangs unaided, but past a certain angle supports become necessary. Designers and makers manage overhangs through model orientation and support placement in the slicer.

Reviews

We’re early. Real reviews only.

Apex Digital launched recently. Every purchase comes with a request for honest feedback through our help center. When real buyers write real reviews, they go here — with their permission, by name. Until then, this section stays empty. No fakes. No stock photos. No bullshit.
