What is print-on-demand and how does it actually work?
You list a product with your design on it; when someone orders, a printing partner makes that one item and ships it; you keep the difference between your price and their cost. No inventory, no minimums, and thinner margins than printing in bulk. The design file is the one thing you supply — and under an Apex license, supplying it to your printer is exactly what the license permits.

The chain
Your store (Etsy, Shopify, your site) → an order → the POD service (Printful, Printify, Gooten and others) prints and ships under your brand → you are billed their base cost. You never touch the product.
- 02
The economics
Base costs are high per unit because nothing is batched. A shirt you could print for $6 in bulk costs $12–15 through POD. The trade is capital and risk for margin. Most POD stores live on design breadth, not unit margin.

Where the file fits
One design, many products, many sizes — all from the file you licensed. The license covers use in your own business; the only thing it forbids in this chain is listing the file itself.
Do I need my own printer?+
No. That is the point.
Who handles returns?+
Your store policy governs the customer; the POD service's policy governs misprints. Read both before listing.
Can I use one design on many products?+
Yes. That is the license's own-business use, and it is how POD stores scale.
- —Apex does not run or integrate a POD service — the file is what you bring to the one you choose.
- —It does not cover product mockups for your listings beyond what you make yourself.
